Check out our new President BARACK OBAMA on the cover of GQ Magazine. He definitely is the “Man of The Year!

The press were not playing with this! And they shouldn’t have been. I’m sure they’re will be more covers coming soon. It’s a beautiful thing!
Zillz don’t kill me. This cover was too beautiful! I still tear up at the fact that Barack Obama is the new President of the United States of America.

I’m back. Still not over the shock but I wanted to share my thoughts. Minutes after posting that Obama had won I took my brother, sister and neighbor joy riding through Philadelphia to celebrate the victory. The streets were flooded with Obama supporters (and of course the police were out there heavy), young and old alike. At first I was riding through the streets…honking my horn (which doesn’t work anymore…lol) and yelling things like “Obama!”, “We did it!”, and “We just made history!” They aired his speech on the radio. I blasted it and drove through the streets slapping high fives with people I didn’t even know. People were riding on top of their cars, dancing in the streets, and hanging out of car windows. I let out a few tears while driving and listening to Obama speak. But it wasn’t until I reached Broad and Chestnut Sts (Center City Philadelphia) and saw the crowd gathered there with police baracades all around them that I began to really cry out. All I keep thinking was that at some point we were slaves, people owned us, WE COULDN’T EVEN VOTE…and now BARACK OBAMA IS THE 1ST BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. And furthermore I’m glad I’m alive to witness this historical moment. I had to call my brother on the phone. When he answered I said, “Barack won! I told you you were gonna make history today!” As I stated before this was his first time voting and right before I had him hit the “Vote” button I told him to take a deep breath and take it all in. After he hit the “Vote” button I told him had just made history. I’m overwhelmed with emotions. I can’t believe it. When I finally went to lay down (I couldn’t sleep…too excited) I looked at my son, laying there sleeping like a little angel and whispered to him, “Baby, Barack Obama is the President. You can be one too.” We’ve all been told that we can be anything we want to be but being President of the United States never seemed real until now. I am proud. I feel good. I get teary eyed everytime I think about it. This man is the epitome of what a good man, a strong man, is. He’s always poised. He has handled every situation thrown at him in a dignified and tactful way. We all know that behind every strong man is a strong woman. Michelle Obama has definitely played her part throughtout this election. Yesterday, people were laughing at me because I was calling everyone I knew making sure they made it out to vote. I made about 4 trips to the polls taking people to go vote. Even in the 11th hour (7:45pm to be exact) I started calling people all over again to make sure they voted. I know that I did my part and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I still can’t really find the words to explain what I’m feeling right now on the inside. I can’t wait for the inauguration speech. I’m sure I’ll shed tears then too. Hopefully I’ll be there. Oh yeah and I’m definitely taking my son to the White House to tour it and meet the 1st African American President!! Obama! Obama! Obama!
Check out the acceptance speech!
While this wasn’t my first time voting it felt like nothing I had ever felt before. There were no long lines (which was kinda strange) but as I walked through the doors of Foster Memorial Church, in the middle of the hood, I saw a few familiar faces…people I didn’t expect to see and at that point I could only hope that EVERYONE who was registered would get out and actually vote this time. I took my little brother and sister with me. They were excited to just go and say they were there while i casted my vote for Barack Obama. As I went down the line, selecting all the democratic nominees nothing felt as good as pushing the button next to Barack Obama’s name. After I casted my vote. I went back home to pick up my other brother so that he too could be a part history making. This was his first time voting. He wasn’t quite sure of what to do and didn’t want to make any mistakes…so he took big sis in with him. I told him to push the button next to Barack Obama’s name and then follow suit down the line of democratic nominees. Before I had him actually push the “VOTE” button I told him to take a deep breath (he did) then push the “VOTE” button. After pushing the button I told him he had just made history. I took my neighbor so that she could vote and plan on making a few more trips before the day is out.
I voted and am making sure everyone I know votes because it is time for a change. Don’t sit back and let this opportunity pass you by. My 1 yr old son will be able to look back on this day and say that his mommy played a part in making history by voting for Barack Obama! Get up. Get out. Go vote.
“I need y’all to be really really quiet for this. I need you to really understand what I’m telling you,” Jay-Z said. “Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama’s running so we all can fly.” Beautiful.
Jay Z, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, Kevin Lyles, Beyonce and even the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. came out to the tough streets of North Philly…where I was born and raised…to promote the vote for Barack Obama. The people turned out in record numbers. Shout out to my mom for going out and taking these pictures for me. Unfortunately I had to work.
People the time is now. The hour is drawing near. Remember learning about Black History when you were little in elementary school? Remember having to fight for black people to get the recognition they deserved? Imagine that you can make history now. No one will ever be able to take that away from you. No one can take away the feeling you get on November 4, 2008 when you cast your vote for Barack Obama! No one can erase the mark we’ll leave on history by voting for change. I can’t even begin to express what I feel inside right now. To be able to look at the President of the United States and see someone who looks like me, who understands my struggles and the struggles we go through daily is overwhelming. Some people will be voting for the first time and there couldn’t be a better time to vote. This is the biggest election in US History. Don’t get lost in the crowd. Speak up and be heard by casting your votes for Barack Obama on November 4th! Jay Z said today at the rally, “We CAN’T hold your hands anymore.” You’ve made sure you’re registered. You watched the debates. You’ve been to the rallys. LET’S GET OUT AND VOTE FOR CHANGE THIS NOVEMBER 4, 2008! OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!
